Wondering about something? The answers are right there – just take a peek to the side.
1. Where is the Czech-Saxon Switzerland National Park located?
2. What is the weather usually like in the national park?
Spring and Autumn (March–May, September–November):
The weather is mild, with daytime temperatures around 10–20 °C (50–68 °F). Mornings and evenings can feel noticeably cooler, so it’s a good idea to bring an extra layer. The weather can also be changeable.
Summer (June–August):
Summers are generally warm, with daytime temperatures around 25–30 °C (77–86 °F), though higher temperatures are possible. In shady gorges and forested valleys, it’s often cooler and more humid – refreshing on hot days, but a light jacket or sweatshirt is recommended. Occasional thunderstorms or short showers can occur, so it’s wise to check the forecast (e.g. yr.no or accuweather.com).
Winter (December–February):
Temperatures usually range between –5 and 5 °C (23–41 °F). You may be treated to a magical snowy landscape, or find dry, walkable trails. That said, winter weather can be unpredictable – wind, fog, rain, or snow may make the hike more challenging. Warm layers and waterproofs are a must.
3. What should I bring? How should I dress?
We recommend wearing comfortable hiking clothes appropriate for the current season. Layering is ideal, as it allows you to adjust to changing weather conditions throughout the day.
In spring and autumn, bring a waterproof jacket.
In summer, light and breathable clothing is best.
In winter, pack warm layers, including a hat and gloves.
Sturdy hiking shoes are essential, as the trails can be uneven and occasionally slippery – even though we stick to marked paths.
Don’t forget a small backpack for your personal belongings, water, the snack we’ll provide, and any small items you might need during the hike.
If you don’t have a raincoat or trekking poles, just let your guide know – we’ll be happy to lend them to you.
There’s no need to bring your own food – it’s all included in the trip price. We’ll take care of snacks and a lunch stop at a local restaurant. If you’d like to buy anything extra during the day (like souvenirs or treats), that’s at your own expense.
4. What type of tour would you recommend?
Each of our tours has its own unique charm. But if you’re looking for something simple and popular, we recommend the „Narnia World“ tour. You’ll explore sandstone rock formations, the largest natural stone gate in Saxony, and the iconic Bastei Bridge.
It’s perfect for nature lovers, fans of epic views, and anyone seeking a relaxed day outdoors. It’s also a great choice for families with kids – little adventurers especially enjoy the maze-like rocks of Tiské stěny (Tisá Rocks).
5. When is the best time to visit the national park?
The Bohemian-Saxon Switzerland National Park is beautiful in every season – it just depends on your preferences.
Spring and autumn are ideal for pleasant hikes in mild weather, with lush greenery or vibrant autumn colors.
Summer brings long, sunny days that are perfect for exploring rock viewpoints and hiking trails.
Winter in the park can offer a unique atmosphere – walks through snowy forests, misty valleys, or along quiet trails let you enjoy the peace and beauty of nature without the crowds.
Each season brings its own charm, which makes the park worth visiting any time of the year.
6. How difficult is the hike? Is it suitable for beginners?
The hikes we offer are designed to be enjoyable for almost everyone.
The routes follow marked trails and range from easy to moderate difficulty, making them suitable for beginners and families with children.
However, please note that some of the hikes include rocky viewpoints with stunning views over the valleys. If you’re afraid of heights, we recommend contacting us in advance – we’ll be happy to suggest a route that better suits your comfort level.
7. How long does a day trip last?
A typical day trip lasts around 8 to 11 hours, including transportation, breaks, and time for lunch at a local restaurant.
The exact duration may vary slightly depending on the chosen route and the group’s pace, but we always aim to make the day enjoyable and stress-free – no unnecessary rushing.
8. Do you also offer multi-day or private tours?
Yes! In addition to day trips, we also offer multi-day or private tours that can be tailored to your preferences. Whether you’re planning a longer adventure or simply want to enjoy the experience with just your family or friends, we’ll be happy to create a personalized itinerary for you.
Just get in touch with us, and we’ll take care of the rest.
9. Are the tours suitable for families with children?
Yes, our tours are also suitable for children. The most suitable route is „Narnia world“, which is the shortest and offers many interesting places, including the maze of Tiske rocks, which will excite little adventurers.
However, it is important that children are used to going on trips and can manage to complete a 9-10 km long route. We recommend trips especially for children from 6 years old who already have experience with longer walks in nature.
For the comfort and safety of the little ones, we can equip the car with a child car seat.
10. Can I take my dog on the trip?
Yes, you can take a small to medium-sized dog weighing a maximum of 10 kg on the trip. During transport by car, the dog must be in a carrier bag or crate. The dog must have a valid passport and the necessary vaccinations, including rabies vaccination for entry into the Czech Republic and Germany.
Once we set off, your dog must be on a leash throughout the trip. Every owner knows their dog well, so they know what behavior to expect from them. Make sure that your dog is well-behaved and friendly to other dogs and people, including children, and that he can handle walking on a leash for the entire trip.
If you have a larger breed, it is possible to arrange a private trip.
11. What currency is used in the area? Can I pay by card?
In the national park, the common currency of both countries is used. In the Czech Republic, it is the Czech crown (CZK) and in Germany, the euro (EUR). We recommend carrying change in both currencies, as although most restaurants and shops accept cards, it can be useful to have cash, especially in smaller shops or at some tourist sites.
12. What is your cancellation and refund policy?
If you need to cancel your trip due to serious reasons, please contact me by email at czechnorthtrip@gmail.com.
Cancellations are accepted up to 5 days before the scheduled trip.
Your payment will be refunded to your account within 5–7 working days, depending on your bank and country.
If you cancel your trip later, unfortunately we do not refund your money.
13. Are there restaurants or places where I can buy snacks in the park?
Yes, there are several restaurants and snack stands in the national park. However, you will not be short of food during our trip – you will receive fresh pastries and coffee in the morning, a snack on the way, and lunch at a restaurant at noon. If you want to buy something extra, you can of course do so during the stops.
14. Is it possible to adjust the route of the trip according to my physical condition?
Our trips have fixed routes to ensure a smooth running and the best experience for all participants. However, if you are looking for an individual approach and adaptation of the route to your capabilities, we are happy to offer you a private trip that can be adjusted to your needs.
15. What sights and natural attractions can I see during the trip?
During our trips you always have the opportunity to discover the best of Bohemian and Saxon Switzerland. On some tours you will see Pravčická brána, the largest rock gate in Europe, or Kuhstall, the largest rock gate in Saxony. You can walk along the picturesque Bastei bridge and enjoy the breathtaking view of the Elbe Sandstones. Other trips will take you to the Tiské stěny, famous from the film The Chronicles of Narnia, or to Jetřichovice, where you will be enchanted by the viewpoints of Maria´s rock, Vileminin´s viewpoint and Rudolf´s stone, which offer some of the most beautiful views of the national park landscape.
Each trip offers a different selection of these natural gems, so everyone will find something for themselves.
16. Do you offer pick-up in hotel or other location in Dresden?
Yes, if you are in Dresden, we can pick you up directly from your hotel or another agreed upon location. Just let us know when you do booking and we will arrange it.
