Where is the Czech-Saxon Switzerland National Park located?
What is the weather usually like in the national park?
Spring and Autumn (March–May, September–November):
The weather is mild, with daytime temperatures around 10–20 °C (50–68 °F). Mornings and evenings can feel noticeably cooler, so it’s a good idea to bring an extra layer. The weather can also be changeable.
Summer (June–August):
Summers are generally warm, with daytime temperatures around 25–30 °C (77–86 °F), though higher temperatures are possible. In shady gorges and forested valleys, it’s often cooler and more humid – refreshing on hot days, but a light jacket or sweatshirt is recommended. Occasional thunderstorms or short showers can occur, so it’s wise to check the forecast (e.g. yr.no or accuweather.com).
Winter (December–February):
Temperatures usually range between –5 and 5 °C (23–41 °F). You may be treated to a magical snowy landscape, or find dry, walkable trails. That said, winter weather can be unpredictable – wind, fog, rain, or snow may make the hike more challenging. Warm layers and waterproofs are a must.
What should I bring? How should I dress?
We recommend wearing comfortable hiking clothes appropriate for the current season. Layering is ideal, as it allows you to adjust to changing weather conditions throughout the day.
- In spring and autumn, bring a waterproof jacket.
- In summer, light and breathable clothing is best.
- In winter, pack warm layers, including a hat and gloves.
Sturdy hiking shoes are essential, as the trails can be uneven and occasionally slippery – even though we stick to marked paths.
Don’t forget a small backpack for your personal belongings, water, the snack we’ll provide, and any small items you might need during the hike.
If you don’t have a raincoat or trekking poles, just let your guide know – we’ll be happy to lend them to you.
There’s no need to bring your own food – it’s all included in the trip price. We’ll take care of snacks and a lunch stop at a local restaurant. If you’d like to buy anything extra during the day (like souvenirs or treats), that’s at your own expense.
What type of tour would you recommend?
Each of our tours has its own unique charm. But if you’re looking for something simple and popular, we recommend the „Narnia World“ tour. You’ll explore sandstone rock formations, the largest natural stone gate in Saxony, and the iconic Bastei Bridge.
It’s perfect for nature lovers, fans of epic views, and anyone seeking a relaxed day outdoors. It’s also a great choice for families with kids – little adventurers especially enjoy the maze-like rocks of Tiské stěny (Tisá Rocks).
When is the best time to visit the national park?
The Bohemian-Saxon Switzerland National Park is beautiful in every season – it just depends on your preferences.
Spring and autumn are ideal for pleasant hikes in mild weather, with lush greenery or vibrant autumn colors.
Summer brings long, sunny days that are perfect for exploring rock viewpoints and hiking trails.
Winter in the park can offer a unique atmosphere – walks through snowy forests, misty valleys, or along quiet trails let you enjoy the peace and beauty of nature without the crowds.
Each season brings its own charm, which makes the park worth visiting any time of the year.
How difficult is the hike? Is it suitable for beginners?
The hikes we offer are designed to be enjoyable for almost everyone.
The routes follow marked trails and range from easy to moderate difficulty, making them suitable for beginners and families with children.
However, please note that some of the hikes include rocky viewpoints with stunning views over the valleys. If you’re afraid of heights, we recommend contacting us in advance – we’ll be happy to suggest a route that better suits your comfort level.
How long does a day trip last?
A typical day trip lasts around 8 to 11 hours, including transportation, breaks, and time for lunch at a local restaurant.
The exact duration may vary slightly depending on the chosen route and the group’s pace, but we always aim to make the day enjoyable and stress-free – no unnecessary rushing.
Do you also offer multi-day or private tours?
Yes. In addition to day trips, we also offer multi-day or private tours that can be tailored to your preferences. Whether you’re planning a longer adventure or simply want to enjoy the experience with just your family or friends, we’ll be happy to create a personalized itinerary for you.
Just get in touch with us, and we’ll take care of the rest.
Are the tours suitable for families with children?
Yes, our tours are also suitable for families with children. The best option is the “Narnia World” trip — it’s the shortest and includes lots of fun spots like the sandstone maze in Tiské Rocks, which young adventurers usually love.
Please note that children should already be used to walking longer distances. We recommend the tours for kids aged 6 and up, ideally those who have some experience with hiking trips (around 9–10 km).
For your comfort and safety, we can provide a child car seat upon request.
Can I take my dog on the trip?
Yes, small to medium-sized dogs (up to 10 kg) are welcome on our tours. During transport, your dog must be in a carrier bag or crate. Don’t forget a valid pet passport and up-to-date vaccinations, including rabies, as we travel through both the Czech Republic and Germany.
While hiking, your dog must stay on a leash at all times. Please make sure your dog is well-behaved, friendly to people and other animals, and able to walk the full route on a leash.
Have a larger dog? Feel free to contact us — we’ll be happy to arrange a private tour for you.
If you have a larger breed, it is possible to arrange a private trip.
What currency is used in the area? Can I pay by card?
The tours take place in both the Czech Republic and Germany, so you’ll encounter two currencies:
– Czech koruna (CZK) in the Czech Republic
– Euro (EUR) in Germany
Most restaurants and shops accept cards, but we recommend carrying some cash in both currencies, especially for smaller vendors or kiosks, where card payment may not be available.
What is your cancellation and refund policy?
If you need to cancel your trip for serious reasons, please email me at czechnorthtrip@gmail.com.
Cancellations made at least 5 days before the scheduled trip are fully refundable.
Your payment will be returned to your account within 5–7 working days, depending on your bank and country.
For cancellations made less than 5 days before the trip, unfortunately, no refund is possible, as costs and reservations are already confirmed.
If you’d prefer to reschedule instead of cancel, just let me know — I’ll do my best to find a new date that works for you.
Are there restaurants or places where I can buy snacks in the park?
Yes, there are several restaurants, cafés, and snack stands in the national park. But don’t worry — you won’t go hungry during the trip.
You’ll get:
- freshly baked pastries and coffee in the morning,
- a small snack during the hike,
- and a hearty lunch at a local restaurant around midday.
If you’d like to buy something extra (like a drink, dessert, or souvenir), you’ll have a few opportunities to do so during our stops.
Is it possible to adjust the route of the trip according to my physical condition?
Our regular tours follow fixed routes to keep everything running smoothly and to make sure everyone enjoys the experience equally.
However, if you’d prefer something more personalized, we’re happy to arrange a private tour tailored to your physical abilities, pace, and interests. Just let us know what you need — and we’ll do our best to make it happen.
What sights and natural attractions can I see during the trip?
Each of our trips is designed to showcase the most iconic and beautiful places in Bohemian and Saxon Switzerland.
Depending on the route you choose, you might:
- stand beneath Pravčická Gate, the largest natural rock arch in Europe,
- visit Kuhstall, the largest rock gate in Saxony,
- walk across the famous Bastei Bridge with panoramic views of the Elbe valley,
- explore the magical rock labyrinth of Tiské stěny, known from The Chronicles of Narnia,
- or hike to the stunning viewpoints above Jetřichovice — Mariina skála, Vilemínina vyhlídka, and Rudolfův kámen.
Every trip offers a different mix of these natural wonders, so there’s something special for everyone to discover.
Do you offer pick-up at hotels or other locations in Dresden?
Yes, if you’re staying in Dresden, we’re happy to pick you up directly from your hotel or another agreed location within the city.
This service is included in the price of the tour. Just let us know during the booking process, and we’ll take care of the rest.
